Dragon and Tiger Lanterns
Lanterns in China carry many meanings. They commemorate deceased loved ones, express hopes for a better future, celebrate the opening of a business with good fortune, and wish for smooth living in a new home. Lanterns can be used for lighting or as decoration.
While researching the different shapes and regional differences of Chinese lanterns, I came across a video on a streaming platform with not many views, showing the Dragon and Tiger Lanterns of Tongan, Xiamen.

In the video, a traditional craftsman said, “His wish to keep making lanterns is to let the light keep shining, so that people far away from home can see the lanterns of their hometown and feel warmth in their hearts.” In fact, this traditional craft of lantern-making is gradually being lost.
Hanging lanterns is a way for the people of Xiamen to show respect for their ancestors; it is how every family expresses their hopes and dreams.
