Turning Point

I began working on the concept of a funeral supplies curated store.

Through my store visits and participation in recording rituals as part of my intervention, I began engaging with the funeral market, something I had never involved myself in or paid attention to before. By integrating this into my daily life, I discovered that outside of specific holidays and times, people generally avoid discussing these topics. Additionally, during an interview with a funeral supplies store owner, I learned that most shops can only sustain themselves long-term if they are located near old neighborhoods, far from city centers, or next to cemeteries.

What also struck me during my store visits was that, despite these products being chosen for loved ones who have passed away—even if they are made of paper and represent our heartfelt sentiments—the stores were often simply or even carelessly decorated. Funeral and worship items were often just piled up.

The ideas from my friends’ feedback on my intervention, along with the works of the funeral supplies curators I tried to contact, have deepened my resolve to challenge people’s biases about funerals.

The proposal for my funeral supplies store

I am working on creating the proposal for my funeral supplies store and will continue following up via email with Guicong and Zeluo brand managers to gather their feedback.

Inspiration about Logo

In the ritual, fire acts as a medium. The ritual begins when the fire starts burning and ends when it burns out, marking the conclusion of the entire ceremony.

If it’s the start of a brand, I hope to begin exploring from the flame.
